eBay Hackerz
eBay insists, this hacker, this Romanian wiseguy who goes by the handle Vladuz, is “nothing new.” He’s just another phisher, says eBay spokeswoman Catherine England, one of hundreds the huge auction site has to deal with constantly…. “This is nothing new. I wish I could say it’s some big, exciting thing. It’s your standard, typical phishing scam that’s been happening a long, long time. I think this person, because [he or she] went on discussion boards and posed as an employee, it got more attention. The reality is these scams have been around years and years.
England’s statement reflects our exact concern about eBay’s position on the issue: eBay grew complacent about the scammers robbing buyers and sellers on eBay site. They know it has been going on for years and years, and as stated by eBay spokeswoman This is nothing new. I wish I could say it’s some big, exciting thing.
We have tracked Vladuz publishing Scam auctions over 100 hijacked Seller Accounts 3 - 4 times per week (see archive), this would quantify to over 1000 hijacked Seller accounts monthly by a single Hacker. By England’s own admission Vladuz, is just one of hundreds the huge auction site has to deal with constantly. So multiplying 1000 + phished seller accounts from just one Scammer times hundreds Scammers currently active on eBay brings the numbers of monthly HIJACKED sellers to the realm of 100,000 plus hijacked/fraudulent sellers per month, if the math is done based on the recent England’s statement.
Unfortunately we do find this status quo unacceptable and our aim is to persuade eBay to change their thinking from acceptance of Scam volume on their site to proactively stepping up their security efforts and implementing significant fundamental changes to the site to make eBay a safe place to trade.
Most fraudulent auctions are placed on existing seller eBay accounts. Seller accounts are hijacked and the hacker than posts fake auction luring unsuspecting eBay buyers to wire them cash funds for deal of their lifetime
